Whilst offering players a general guide to gambling at this venue, this leaflet also offers some helpful hints to assist patrons control their use of gambling to ensure it is enjoyed for what it is – Entertainment.
What are Your Chances of Winning?
Players should be aware of their odds or chances of winning on a range of commonly used gambling services at The Grand Hotel. These services include Electronic Gaming Machines, (EGM’s, Pokies, Slot Machines) and Keno.
Background of Electronic Gaming Machines
All EGM’s undergo stringent testing before they are installed in venues to ensure they comply with strict Government Regulations. By law, each EGM must also be ‘licensed’ in Queensland . This is noted by the presence of an official machine plate found on the side of the machine.
These measures are taken for your protection. By law, all EGM’s in Queensland are programmed to Return to Player (RTP) between 85% and 92% of the takings. This means that for every $1 (dollar) that is put into the machine, it is programmed to RTP between $0.85 and $0.92. The RTP is a long term average meaning that, in the long run, the machine always comes out ahead.
The stopping position of each reel is completely random and is done separately and independently of each reel. The outcome of each spin is Completely Random and whether you win or lose is totally a matter of luck.
Gaming Machines Are Not Pre-Programmed to Pay Out Any Specific Time or After Any Particular Cycle.
In other words a players chance of winning or losing are exactly the same for every play regardless of any previous play. Hence it does not make a difference if:
• You play a poker machine straight after some one else has had a large payout
• You play a machine that has not had a large payout for sometime
• If you play at a certain time, e.g. certain times, certain days
• If you press the button in certain ways
Odds
The chances of the same five (5) symbols appearing in a winning combination generally range from between one (1) in 9,700,000 to one (1) in 52,500,000. This means that for every 9,700,000 times the reels are spun, five (5) symbols appearing in a winning combination will occur once. Of course, the chances of winning a small prize, requiring fewer matching symbols, will be more frequent, for example:
• 4 of the same symbol – 1 chance in 424,700 spins
• 3 of the same symbol – 1 chance in 315,400 spins
• 2 of the same symbol – 1 chance in 1,400 spins
Remember the chances of specific combinations occurring are totally random.
Number Games (Keno)
Keno is found in hotels, clubs and casinos around the state. Games are drawn every three minutes from head office in Queensland located on Willian street , Brisbane. Like lotto or powerball, the numbers are drawn using a device that is basically a random number generator.
In Keno, there are 80 numbers, one (1) to eighty (80). Under strict supervision twenty (20) numbers are drawn at random. Players can choose from the following:
• One (1) up to Ten (10) numbers
• Fifteen Numbers
• Twenty Numbers or
• Forty Numbers
Odds
If you choose seven (7), eight (8), nine (9) or ten (10) numbers, a portion of your bet, or wager, will be allocated to the jackpot for seven (7), eight (8), nine (9) or ten (10) number games.
Your chance of winning the jackpot on the ten (10) number game is one (1) in 8,911,000. This means you have one (1) chance in over 8 million to win the jackpot.
